Why we Chose Low Emission Equipment for our Work and the Benefits to Using Them

One main thing we always keep in mind when running our business is taking care of the environment and what we can do to protect it as much as possible. That’s why when it came to choosing our equipment, we chose low emission, battery operated. By not using gas powered equipment, you don’t create greenhouse gas emissions and they are cheaper to run without the need to buy gas. There is also less chance of mess when not using gas or oil as there is no worry of leaks. For the most part, the only oil needed is to lubricate some parts, using a spray lubricant. So what are the benefits and why should you make the switch if you haven’t already? Read on to find out all the benefits to low emission lawn equipment.

Why is Battery Powered Better than Gas Powered?

Making the choice to switch from gas to electric comes with more than one perk. They are lighter weight and easier to store, environmentally friendly, and relatively low maintenance. Electric can also be easier to start, as it is just the turn of a switch, compared to older models that need to be started by pulling a cord. Some people think gas is still better when it comes to mowing larger lawns, but a single charge on a battery for an electric mower is around 1 hour. By having more than one battery, you would be able to switch if the first battery dies, which is faster than having to refuel a gas tank. There are also less parts that need replacing or tuning, no spark plugs, and no fuel filters to deal with.

What are the Benefits to the Environment?

There are many benefits to using low emission battery powered lawn equipment over gas powered. One of the main reasons is lowering our carbon footprint and not contributing to climate change, as battery powered has zero carbon emissions. Roughly for each season of using a gas powered mower, it can emit about 48 kilograms of greenhouse gas. Emissions are polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Another benefit is battery powered is much quieter, by about 50% less than gas powered. By not using gas or oil, you reduce the amount that could possibly be spilled and absorbed into the ground, or even due to possible leaks in older equipment.

There are many options when you start looking into battery powered equipment, in a range of prices making an affordable model for all price points. We chose to use Husqvarna for all of our equipment. They are a longstanding trustworthy brand with a wide range of battery powered products, including mowers, hedge trimmers, string trimmers, leaf blowers, and chainsaws. The batteries are interchangeable, making it easier to swap when needed. There is also a backpack battery option that provides up to 10 hours of use between charges.
